Tarantino on Charlie Rose

Tarantino on Charlie Rose was one of the best TV experiences of 2009 so far.

movie sucked. as far as revenge fantasies go, there is little more boring/uninventive than retributive Jews killing Hitler.

So you're more of an aliens-in-a-concentration-camp-as-allegory-for-man's-inhumanity-to-man guy?

I totally agree. Tarantino enjoys talking to Rose and you could see that his answers were well thought out and passionate. That was great television. I enjoyed the part where he discussed going to a film workshop to deconstruct one of his famous scenes in Reservoir dogs, and found out that the characters were really communicating father issues when they were bleeding to death.

Wherein the film maker and the television interviewer discuss the film maker's movies without ever mentioning the single element that ties them all together, cartoonish violence.

funny thing about District 9: i'm pretty sure it periodically lapsed into racist caricature, but the underlying story of Wikus was fascinating. (spaceship was the tits, too.) as for IB, forget about the violence criticism, the movie had no soul.

Other funny thing about District 9 is its unintentional recreation of most of Blood Diamond. "Go! Go, be with your son. I'll stay here and fight them off... My man."
