100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Blender is dead, so now you can rely on Amazon for lists like The 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums Of All Time. (Guided by Voices? Really?)

Personally I've always thought that the answer to the question "What, exactly, is indie rock?" is "<I>Bee Thousand</I> and <I>Slanted & Enchanted</I>."<br /><br /> <br /><br /> However, the fact that <I>Emergency & I</I> isn't on that list renders it pretty much useless.

harryh,<br /><br /> <br /><br /> Exactly...I noticed the Blender list included NIN, which in my opinion is the furthest thing from indie rock.<br /><br /> <br /><br /> Just another useless Amazon list...

Consider their motive. It should have been titled "100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums of All Time That We Sell in Our MP3 Store."

Wow, Stereogum commenters are a bit... opinionated. (Who knew?) Wonder what they think about Billy Joel.

YES REALLY, REX. Get over yourself and don't even bother buying a GbV record. This music is not for you. Enjoy your Hot Chip european remixes and all those M.I.A. & M83 records. Bee Thousand came out at a time when bands like Pavement, Spoon, Modest Mouse were just getting started. Guided By Voices had been making music since the 80's when the SST bands like Husker Du and Firehose and Black Flag were making records (that very few people bought). Now I know that doesn't mean Bee Thousand belongs as #1, but one should have some historical sense of the time period before one says, "REALLY?"

I think with Amazon it would come down to which listings would make them the most money. There would be some "good" ones sprinkled in the list but I am not sure if you could fully trust them.
