Google Latitude
Days after sinking Dodgeball and everyone (in NYC, at least) jumps on Brightkite, Google launches Google Latitude. Update: Dens' response (as always, on Flickr).

I've dabbled with brightkite, but I can't figure out if it doesn't have a feature like dodgeball's "!" or if I just can't find it.

The worst feature of Brightkite (and it appears also Latitude) is that it locates people in general places, not specific bars/restaurants/whatever. I mean, who cares if the girl I like is at the corner of 17th & 5th? This information is worthless to me unless I know <em>where</em>.

Brightkite has locations just like Dodgeball and can work the same way over SMS. Their database just isn't as large. They do have "!" shouts as well they just call them "posts," but the syntax is the same.

Really? I was trying to find locations the other day and couldn't find them...<br /><br /> <br /><br /> Perhaps you'll have to show me how to trick it into accepting "Tile Bar" as a location...<br /><br />

I think it's a "interesting" idea actually. Unfortunately it's going to become another "double edged sword" that the tech provides us. At least this way if your significant other says they are at point A and your at your computer they had better be there. lol

It's a neat way to keep up with friends, but no way can it be used by employers. There are already business tracking applications, like MobiBiz, which specially look out for privacy issues in the workplace.
