Fear on SNL
Young Manhattenite digs up this crazy story and video about Fear playing SNL in 1981. (I've been reading a lot about Belushi lately, and this is a pretty fantastic artifact of the effects of his taste.)

The story Ian tells can't be totally correct, because Lorne Michaels was not the producer of SNL when Fear performed. Dick Ebersol was. They talk about the Fear performance in 'Live From New York.'

There's a part in the book where someone mentions that Lorne Michaels has essentially scrubbed the Ebersol/Doumanian years from the reruns, but I know I've seen Ebersol-era episodes in late-late-night NBC slots in recent years. It's like watching a parallel universe. The episode I saw had an awful Whiners skit that repeatedly used racial slurs against Asians that would get a show canceled now-a-days. I can't believe they re-ran it at all.

I've been meaning to read 'Live From New York" for a while. Gonna pick it up.<br /><br /> <br /><br /> Anyway, I think this shows that Belushi could connect the dots to help create interesting TV for a performance from a marginal punk band. (sorry, was never a fan.)<br /><br /> <br /><br /> Now, if he had managed to get X to play instead, well...
