I did the same thing at Tower Records in Seattle's U District.

Little did I know that Nevermind would come out two weeks later and pretty much erase GnR from my mind and throw Seattle into a whole new world of crazy shit.

Also as a side note: Did you know that RS gave Nevermind 3 out of 5 stars?

http://tinyurl.com/5dyv5k

The A.V. Club? No offense, but doesn't the definitive Chinese Democracy review deserve a more distinguished placement? Maybe hardcover pamphlet form a la Chomsky after 9/11. Or etched onto a black monolith of indeterminate substance and origin.

I'm totally going to be at a best buy in Richfield on Friday night, aren't I. Fuck. This is not how I thought my life would turn out.

I was there with you and Chuck... Can't remember for sure, but I think you drove that sporty little Buick you had when we were sophomores living in McVey. I think Nevermind hit GF right away, I had a copy dubbed from someone's CD and the hottest girl in my high school class wouldn't listen to the whole thing on a weekend drive back to Langdon. That set me back a few years musically, reverting to Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd on KJ 108. Sheesh!

I should just admit this to myself: at this stage of my life, it is the best buy in Richfield. And I overlooked the silver lining to the A.V. Club: comments. Get a load of these jackals.

Hey, here's my chance to get you to answer my question, Rex!

Okay, reading it, I guess it wasn't a question but moreso a command. Answer anyway!

Gavin: Even worse, Spin gave "album of the year" that year to Teenage Fanclub.

Steve: Buick Skylark! Who was the hottest girl from Langdon, and did I sleep with her?

Katie: Yep. That's me.

Suzanne B. Pretty sure you didn't. Opinions vary on hotness/accessibility.

Ummm... I think it might have been Disc & Tape (by the mall), not Budget. Or maybe I wasn't with you guys, thought I was.... I got the damN thing that morning though.

Oh Langdon girls, how I miss thee.

We started at Budget at midnight, bought our CDs, and then went down o Disc & Tape to see the crowd there.

Remind me, did they turn the Uptown Cheapo into a Best Buy?

PS - this thread is teeming with nostalgia.

Laura: Other way around -- the Best Buy became a Cheapo.

Ahhhh...I really need to get back. Still, I don't think I'll ever forget the head shop where the Gap is today.

Laura: the Gap is now a Victoria's Secret.

NoDak people: are Langdon girls like the Hold Steady's Southtown girls, or can they blow you away?

Naw... Langdon girls won't stay.

CD now streaming on myspace.com/gunsnroses means I suddenly have a much less pressing need to go buy a physical copy and can wait until my weekly BB stop-in for whatever DVDs happen to be coming out Tuesday that I must have at their cheapest (that Hall & Oates concert disc maybe?)

On the HS/DBTs note. I'm going to be the dude in the black leather jacket with the hot young girls who aren't my girlfriends on Friday night. If you are at the show, say hey!

Craig Finn dances with a gorilla, and the Drive Bys just smoked cigs and watched it happen. An evening at the Thunderbird pales in comparison. Superfun.
