I've been thinking a lot about what kinds of events people watch live in groups. Since the TiVo was introduced, sports was the only answer. But lately, it seems like people watch things like SNL and the presidential debates in groups. (And people also to seem to congregate for small groups of friends around things like Gossip Girl and Mad Men -- but that observation might have New York bias.)

So the question is if some of that group viewing can be extended toward online social viewing. Watching all the people live blog events in the last few months (especially on Twitter) has me thinking that maybe things are shifting?

It sounds like this would give networks a lot more live feedback on programming...maybe we're getting closer to this engagement formula I always hear about, but never see done correctly.

*shakes a martini for Rex*

Let the show begin!

Yeah, gotta say, the Twitterized debates were a revelation over here on Current -- people went *nuts* for them.

I think things are definitely shifting.
