Woody Allen at the Box Office

Cinematical: Woody Allen at the Box Office. Vicky Cristina Barcelona opened in 10th place in the box office -- the first film of his last eight to crack the top 10, when Small Time Crooks last did it eight years ago. And that was the first one since Husbands and Wives did it eight years and eight movies before that. Although I love the guy, I don't think he's made a good movie since the late '90s when Deconstructing Harry, Mighty Aphrodite, and the under-rated Celebrity were major discussion points, even though none of them cracked the top ten either.

(I still haven't seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona. And no, I don't think Match Point was anything all that special. I already feel like I've forgotten parts of the plot.)

huh. I thought Match Point was more popular and better received.

To clarify, Match Point was a piece of steaming, stinking pile of snore-inducing shit. I wouldn't have even known it was a thriller but for the Netflix package blurb. And I'm not sure if Scarlett Johansson is his muse, but the fact that we're even asking the question is problem enough. Worst actress since Natalie Portman...

And I can't even believe you give no love to Sweet and Lowdown Rex. His best since the 70's in my book...
