I can't seem to find the color "reflective shiny surface" on my hex list.

Until they (Apple) open the sandbox for the camera to allow video. You're SOL on the iTunes store. You could still take video clips of your face, flip the phone and replay the clip. Sorta mirror-like.

You could even have audio insults on playback.

Fun stuff.

yeah... video is your best best... more of a mirror to the past.

that's what the button on top is for. black screen under glass is plenty reflective.

A few people have tried to tell me that the reflective surface is enough... I don't know how they think that... enough to see that you indeed still have a face?

My wife also thought of this idea a while back and even talked to a few engineers. Nobody could figure out a solution except unsatisfying low tech hacks.

Where's the mirror mirror on the wall with Merlin Mann app telling you how shitty you look after you bombed at the TechCrunch50 and decided to get wasted on boxed wine.

even in dim light, the screen (not the apple on the back) is a very suitable mirror.

I believe it's already been done, but perhaps not for the iPhone yet. The ULED (suspected) screen is laid over the top of a chrome plate, and to engage the mirror you simply turn the screen off briefly, like a kind of "sleep" mode. The screen itself prevents smudges in the chrome. I saw it on a commercial just recently, but can't recall the product -- I was too engaged in wondering how the feat was accomplished to bother with the product name.

Oh, and I'm guessing between the chrome and ULED might be a clear section of that glass that you can make opaque at the flip of a switch, as not to create glare through the screen. All speculation, mind you ^_^
