Scarlett

Here we go... Pitchfork has the first track you can hear from Scarlett Johansson's Tom Waits cover album (out in May). It starts off sounding like a TV on the Radio song (Sitek produced it), but then turns atmospheric. Judgment so far: unsure. UPDATE: track has been removed; you didn't miss much.

The track is unfortunately taken offline, now, but my initial reaction is that Scarlett Johansson is much better looking than Tom Waits. <br /><br />

Much better looking, but, unfortunately, not a very good singer. They've buried her voice in the mix, and even with autotune and protools it's not much of a vocal. All-in-all, meh.

Truth be told, I'm too big a fan of Tom Waits to be fair minded about covers. I still grind my teeth whenever I hear Rod Stewart sing "Downtown Train," and I <em>like</em> Rod Stewart. I do give SJ credit for her taste, though.
