Greatest interview ever...

I think CR's big mistake was showing it at all. As to the "out of his element" thought, well, I have often been impressed at how broad CR can be. Heads of state, any politician, philosophers, writers, artists whether visual, dance or music, actors, entertainers, captains of industry ...... Charlies interviews are unmatched IMO. I remember when Peter OToole was interviewed on The Daily Show (I love JS! and the d show) but the interview was not very good, but when CR did an interview with POT (how do you abbreviate that name?) it was a wonderful piece. There are a myriad of fab interviews that CR has done, but these guys?? even when he asked a real question they gave back nothing. Yep, it was not a very good CR interview, but the interviewees were vapid in their responses and had little to say about their art or their approach to it.

Its a pity that CR even aired it. If he is out of his element with regard to the Beastie Boys then no great loss. But about being out of his element with musicians in general this I do not understand? I recall great interviews with Wynton Marsalis, James Levine, Tony Bennett, David Bowie, Paul Simon, Simon Rattle, Dave Matthews, Bela Fleck, Yo-Yo Ma, Mick Jagger, Annie Lennox. I am reminded of the interview that Gene A**H*** Simmons did with Terry Gross on Fresh Air. The BBs werent ofensive in that vein but no more useful. They were just projecting attitude either witholding or did not have anything edifying to say about their art.

Or, maybe I am just too old to be commenting.

Love your site, Rex.
